Many of the modern Scalextric cars are now fitted with working
lights, front and rear. This gives a real sense of realism to the race
especially for the rally and GT cars. But what about the older cars
sold before lights became popular? Or what about that period when
Scalextric fitted orange LEDs for headlights? How can these cars be
fitted with lights?
Inside most older Scalextric cars
there’s plenty of room to add the necessary lights and wires and with
some minor modifications to the car body the lights can be fitted. We
recommend using a pre-made lighting kit to reduce the complexity.
There are kits for headlights that use bulbs and kits that use LEDs.
The LED kits are better as the LEDs don’t flicker and change brightness
as the car races on the track. LED kits are also available for the rear lights, some contain both the stop and tail light function in one LED.
These are easy to fit and make night racing a real possibility.
