Scalextric G4 round pin guide for vintage Scalextric Seat TC 600 cars

These Scalextric guides are direct replacements for those used on the vintage Scalextric cars listed below. This guide is sometimes referred to as G4.

This replacement guide pin for these Scalextric cars is moulded in Carbon Fibre reinforced black plastic. The added Carbon Fibre gives greater wear resistance.

Guide blade upgrade kit for vintage Scalextric C74 and C75

Guide blade Scalextric C74 and C75

This guide blade upgrade kit is a direct replacement for the original Scalextric G5 guide pin fitted to the cars listed below. The kit comes complete with:
  • Guide blade G30
  • Braids (fitted)
  • Braid pins (fitted)
  • Wires (fitted)
  • Motor electrical tags (fitted)
  • Guide adaptor bracket
The original guide pin fitted to these Scalextric cars cannot readily be used on modern track with crossovers, points etc. as the pin is small and the car can change lanes when traversing a crossover! This kit uses a later Scalextric guide blade which is needed to maintain the right direction of travel on modern track obstacles.
No soldering is required as this kit simply fits into place with only basic tools. The original car body and motor are used with no changes at all, which means the original guide pin can be refitted at any time to return your Scalextric car to it’s original condition.
With this kit you can enjoy your original Scalextric Austin Healey 3000 and Scalextric Mercedes 190SL models on later Scalextric Classic track and even new Scalextric Sort track layouts.

Scalextric G3 round pin guide for vintage Scalextric cars

This round plastic Scalextric guide was used from the early 1960s to the 1970s on almost all the Scalextric cars produced in that period.  The translucent white guide clips into the underside of the chassis moulding and has a narrow pin that engages with the slot of the track. The pin wears over time meaning a replacement guide is the only answer.

Choosing the right Scalextric guide blade pick-up braid pins

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s Scalextric cars used little metal pins to connect the pick-up brushes to the motor wires.  Originally the pick-up pins were brass in colour and had a diameter of 1.95mm.  Later on the pins were changed to a silver colour and the diameter was changed to 1.75mm.

The two pins are very similar to look at apart from the colour.  However, the modern service part for the 1.75mm pin is now a brass colour too.  So it’s now impossible to look at a pin and decide its diameter.  The only way to let them apart is to measure the diameter with a micrometer or try them in the guide.
The only really certain way to ensure a match is to replace the Scalextric guide and pins together as a complete guide assembly.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s Scalextric cars used little metal pins or rivets to connect the pick-up braids to the wires that go to the motor.  The wire passes through these hollow pins and the conductors are bent back on the outside of the pin.  Originally the pick-up pins were brass in colour and had a diameter of 1.95mm.  Later, during the 1990s, the pins were changed to a silver colour and the diameter was changed to 1.75mm.

The two pins are very similar to look at apart from the colour.  However, the modern service part for the 1.75mm pin is now brass too.  So it’s now impossible to look at a pin and decide its diameter.  The only way to tell them apart is to measure the diameter with a micrometer or try them in the guide moulding.

Scalextric pin guides on new Scalextric track

The early Scalextric cars used a pin to run in the slot of the Scalextric track rather than a blade used later.  Several Scalextric guides were produced but the most popular was the round pin guide sometimes known as the Scalextric G3 round pin guide.

There are a few problems with the pin guides:
  • The pin can snap easily
  • The pin can wear out
Another problem is where you layout has a crossover for the slots as the pin can change lanes and go onto the other slot in the track, effectively changing lanes.  These means that the early Scalextric cars fitted with the various pin guides are not suitable for track layouts with crossovers or anywhere where the slot is not continuous.
