New MAX Grip Scalextric tyres tires for vintage Scalextric Mercedes 190 SL

These Scalextric tyres were used extensively from the mid 1960 to the late 1960s

The new hand made MAX Grip tyres are unique to Scalextric Car Restorations and give the absolute maximum in performance at all times. Cornering and acceleration will all be at their maximum with these tyres. They give the very best performance possible on all track surfaces at all times. Simply put we have not yet discovered a better tyre for grip and race performance.

The MAX Grip tyres are hand moulded from 29 Shore A hardness rubber which is a very high grip material.

Machine gun set for the Scalextric James Bond 007 Aston Martin DB5

This machine gun set moulding is for the vintage Scalextric James Bond 007 Aston Martin DB5 from the 007 James Bond set. This Scalextric Aston Martin is sometimes referred to as C97.

The machine guns protrude through the front grille of the James Bond Aston Martin DB5 and the Scalextric version is just the same. Just like in the original James Bond film Goldfinger.

Rear axle for Scalextric cars with the RX motor

The early Scalextric cars produced during the 1960 were fitted with the Scalextric RX motor and the Scalextric Powersledge motors.  These motors had a thicker motor shaft than the later motors.  Consequently, the rear axle has a wider groove into which the motor shaft fits.

As a result of this the later and more common rear axles with the yellow and black contrate gears cannot be used on these early Scalextric cars.  Luckily there are some new replacement rear axles available for your Scalextric cars fitted with the RX motor and Powersledge motor.  Below are the known axle sizes.

How to clean old Scalextric track

Over time the track rails of Scalextric track becomes tarnished and turns a dull grey colour.  This is caused by the surface plating oxidising and is made worse in damp conditions.  The tarnish has two effects; it reduced the electrical current to the car so the car runs slower and it increases the wear on the pick up braids of the Scalextric cars.

Keeping your Scalextric track clean is therefore very important.  We’ve found the best way to do this is to use a Scalextric track polishing pad that easily cleans off the tarnish and returns the track rails to a clean and shiny condition.  This includes the ends of the track rails where the electrical connection to the next track piece is made.


The clean and shiny Scalextric track gives better electrical conductivity and reduces the wear on the braids of your Scalextric cars.
The plastic base for the track piece can become dirty with dust and oils too.  To clean this use worm soapy water in a large sink or maybe the bath tub.  Use an old nail brush to scrub out the dirt.  Dry immediately to prevent corrosion of the track rails.

The pitfalls of buying Scalextric cars on Ebay

Buying Scalextric cars on eBay can be a terrible minefield as there are many traders and home sellers who are not totally honest in what they do.  We have seen many Scalextric cars purchased as eBay Scalextric items that are NOT what the buyer expected and definitely not as described.

Is this deliberate fraud or simply lack of experience in the Scalextric car on offer?  Probably both, in varying measures.  So what’s the answer?  Simple, the phrase “buyer beware” still operates in the frontier land of eBay.  As a buyer you must know what you want and what makes a good example.  The buyer must know their stuff.
There are 2 generic types of eBay Scalextric cars; there’s new and there’s used.  New Scalextric cars can have several things not right with them; the first is that they might not be new but used and simply cleaned up.  The second is that the Scalextric cars may be stolen and not the property of the seller and therefore not yours once you’ve purchased them.  The third is that the Scalextric cars may not be what you expected, for example many eBay Scalextric cars are removed from sets so do not come with a box.
Ebay Scalextric used cars are even worse.  The best advice we can give for a used eBay Scalextric car is that the car will have a fault of some type and will need Scalextric spare parts to repair it.  Your mission as the buyer is to find out what the fault is and decide whether or not you can fix it or live with it.  Sellers of eBay Scalextric cars tend to lie by omission, so find out what is not described and ask lot’s of questions.

Scalextric track C8222 to connect Sport track to Classic track

You can extend your old Classic Scalextric track layout with the modern Scalextric Sport track pieces to create a larger layout and one with the modern Sport and digital features.

This Scalextric C8222 track conversion kit comprises 2 pieces of new Scalextric converter track. These allow you to add modern Scalextric Sport track pieces to your existing Classic Scalextric track layout. Each track piece is 175mm (approx. 6.8 inches) long.

Scalextric G3 round pin guide for vintage Scalextric cars

This round plastic Scalextric guide was used from the early 1960s to the 1970s on almost all the Scalextric cars produced in that period.  The translucent white guide clips into the underside of the chassis moulding and has a narrow pin that engages with the slot of the track. The pin wears over time meaning a replacement guide is the only answer.
